{"id":16963,"date":"2022-03-24T12:50:50","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T18:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=16963"},"modified":"2022-04-07T14:03:26","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T20:03:26","slug":"searcy-nonprofit-to-host-annual-dodgeball-tournament-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2022\/03\/24\/searcy-nonprofit-to-host-annual-dodgeball-tournament-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Searcy nonprofit to host annual dodgeball tournament, fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Searcy KLIFE \u2014 a nonprofit youth ministry \u2014 is hosting its sixth annual community dodgeball tournament and fundraiser on Saturday, April 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob Keith, chapter director of KLIFE, said the tournament helps bring the Searcy community together for competitive fun, and anyone can be involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have kids, parents, college students, grandparents \u2014 and even random members of the community of Searcy come out to the tournament,\u201d Keith said. \u201cThis event is fun, not only because of the dodgeball, but because we also have a concession stand for those who come to watch and hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tournament is a fundraiser for KLIFE, bringing in money for the day-to-day operations, women\u2019s director Katie Bussmann said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSearcy KLIFE is run completely off of donations by the community,\u201d Bussmann said. \u201cThis fundraiser will help allow us to run day-to-day operations, but also allow us to host events for the youth in town.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who participate in the tournament make a team and then play in two games of \u201cpool play,\u201d Bussmann said. Each game has three rounds that last five minutes. Then, the teams move into \u201cbracket play,\u201d which is determined by the number of wins a team has during pool play. Each bracket game lasts ten minutes until there is only one team left standing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKids love the tournament,\u201d Bussmann said. \u201cWe are excited about this year\u2019s turnout. Kids get together a team, name it something fun and always show up wearing their version of a uniform. Some teams are already practicing, getting ready for the big day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another aspect of the tournament is that team members can purchase \u201cextra lives\u201d if they get hit during a round. All proceeds go toward KLIFE\u2019s ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bussmann said she is excited to see the community gather again to help support KLIFE and to spend time with one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to see the community gather for something as fun and simple as a dodgeball tournament,\u201d Bussmann said. \u201cThere\u2019s also an adult bracket, so I hope to see good competition out of parents and college students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah Oxner, former board member and mother of three students involved with Searcy KLIFE, said the dodgeball tournament started out as a simple activity for students, but has turned into one of the ministry\u2019s biggest fundraisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany businesses in the community have put their full support behind this event with sponsorships to help make it a successful fundraiser and its growth has been unbelievable,\u201d Oxner said. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing to watch so many kids, parents, and adults from so many church denominations come together for this special event to glorify our Lord while also having good clean fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oxner said she encourages anyone of any age to form a team and join in on the fun, or volunteer to referee.Anyone interested in joining the tournament can find the signup form on KLIFE\u2019s Instagram page (@searcyklife).
