{"id":16409,"date":"2021-10-07T12:02:53","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T18:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=16409"},"modified":"2022-01-11T15:01:14","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T21:01:14","slug":"high-school-sports-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2021\/10\/07\/high-school-sports-update\/","title":{"rendered":"High school sports update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Written by Sophie Rossitto<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two local high schools held homecoming football games on Friday, Oct. 1, in the midst of a busy couple of weeks for fall sports in Searcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harding Academy won its homecoming matchup against Mountain View by a score of 38-0, according to the school\u2019s athletics Twitter account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Searcy High School (SHS) hosted West Memphis and won by a margin of 44-7, the team\u2019s Twitter account said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riverview High School\u2019s football team was also in action last Friday. The Raiders traveled to Newport and were shut out, 41-0, according to the team\u2019s Facebook account.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before homecoming night at Harding Academy, the school\u2019s head football coach Neil Evans said one of his goals for the team was to see them improve on offensive skills, such as catching and throwing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[I] just want to continue to see our guys make strides in execution,\u201d Evans said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The Wildcats\u2019 athletic director Shane Fullerton said the football team was poised to make another playoff run after capturing the state championship last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that Harding Academy is coming off of one of the most successful years in its athletic history. During the 2020-21 school year, the Wildcats won state titles in five different sports: football, baseball, men\u2019s basketball, women\u2019s soccer and women\u2019s track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year is an exciting follow-up to that year, with teams getting started on the right foot,\u201d Fullerton said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Harding Academy golf teams competed in the 3A state tournaments in the past two weeks, Fullerton said.
