{"id":15742,"date":"2021-02-11T20:22:12","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T02:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=15742"},"modified":"2021-02-19T08:00:45","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T14:00:45","slug":"celebrating-valentines-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2021\/02\/11\/celebrating-valentines-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Valentine\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Written by Britty Gist.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrated with shades of pink and red, fresh flowers, chocolate-covered candies, sweet cards and warm hearts, Valentine\u2019s Day is a day dedicated to showing love to those around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valentine\u2019s Day\u2019s origin is rather blurry, including how it was established and to whom to give credit. However, St. Valentine, whichever one in history he may be, has given people all over the world a special day to simply be loved and present love in return, and many women on Harding\u2019s campus have their own traditions, likes and dislikes when it comes to this holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Junior Kathryn Wilkins said that she has always loved Valentine\u2019s Day. Even as a young child, she said that she loved going to the store with her mom to get little cards and cookies for her classmates. Now, Wilkins is engaged, and said she still views Valentine\u2019s Day as highly as she did as a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love being able to love people, and I like having people to care for,\u201d Wilkins said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great day, even if you don\u2019t have a romantic partner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Ashlyn Alexander said that she is rather fond of celebrating \u201cGalentine\u2019s Day,\u201d which is observed on Feb. 13. She said she loves getting flowers and chocolates and watching \u201cThe Notebook,\u201d but her favorite tradition is getting dressed up for dinner with one of her best friends since sixth grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year I think we are going to switch the tradition up,\u201d Alexander said. \u201c We are going to relax, watch movies and eat ice cream this year, and I am so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instructor of Kinesiology Christy Morgan has been married to her husband, Harding Men\u2019s Basketball Coach Jeff Morgan, for 27 years and said that she has seen her fair share of different Valentine\u2019s Day traditions in that time. Given that Valentine\u2019s Day is during the peak of basketball season, she said she simply looks forward to having quality time with her husband on this day, no matter what that might look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a day to show love to people no matter who it is, and I love that,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cWe can never have enough of those days.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Britty Gist.
