{"id":14386,"date":"2020-02-27T23:57:04","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T05:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=14386"},"modified":"2020-03-05T11:54:54","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T17:54:54","slug":"students-host-charity-concert-for-sparrows-promise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2020\/02\/27\/students-host-charity-concert-for-sparrows-promise\/","title":{"rendered":"Students host charity concert for Sparrow\u2019s Promise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Seniors Braden Snyder and Michael Krupka will host a charity event they are calling Free Coffee Co. tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the First Lady\u2019s Garden to raise money for local charity Sparrow\u2019s Promise. There will be free coffee and a free concert performed by junior Austin Varner and senior Jay Bogardus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are raising money to help support the building of a new playground for Sparrow\u2019s Promise \u2014 a charity to help foster children find healthy homes. Representatives from the nonprofit wil lattend the leap day event and accept donations to go toward their remaining $10,000 goal to complete the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an awesome organization,\u201d Snyder said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to raise as much money as we possibly can.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event started as a small idea one night when Snyder and Krupka started talking about the idea of opening a small coffee shop for their friends to celebrate the holiday that comes once every four years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of a sudden, this idea of giving away free stuff kind of popped in our heads,\u201d Snyder said. \u201cThen we were like, \u2018What if we made it bigger and got a charity involved?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snyder and Krupka met with assistant professor of Bible Dr. Andrew Baker about which charity to involve and decided on Sparrow\u2019s Promise. Snyder and Krupka then contacted RoZark Hills Coffee Roasterie to ask if they would consider donating coffee for the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company donated a $50 bag of espresso blend, which will be used to make black coffee, iced coffee, hot and iced lattes, and more.
