In case you missed it, last week was Spring Sing. In the middle of the actual Spring Sing program, the ensemble sang a song called\u00a0\u201cYou Will Be Found\u201d from the musical \u201cDear Evan Hansen.\u201d The lyrics go like this: \u201cEven when the dark comes crashing through, when you need a friend to carry you, when you\u2019re broken on the ground, you will be found.\u201d<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t stop thinking about how people always say \u201cfind yourself \u201d when you come to college. I know they did to me, at least. I thought they were all completely sappy, but what dawned on me in that moment is that we are best found when we are searching together. There truly are places where we can be found: the places where people care about each other.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d be so bold as to say it is impossible to find yourself without this kind of environment, where people are there to lift one another up and not just to pursue their idea of self. At Harding, this has been my experience: I have been found by people who can tell me who I really am and whose I really am.<\/p>\n

I hope that this year, the Student Association has been able to provide some avenue that allowed you to be \u201cfound\u201d because of the presence of other people. Our goal has always been to provide a way for students to have voices and for them to feel that they matter.This year, we chose our theme of \u201cBe Present\u201d because we believed the best way to convey another person\u2019s worth to them is just to be a neighbor.<\/p>\n

Through joy, sorrow, laughter and campus flooding, I am so thankful that we got this group of people to\u201cBePresent\u201dwith this year.I am sure that Harding is the absolute best place to \u201cBe Present\u201d and be found.<\/p>\n

Finally, I want to give a personal thank you to The Bison for allowing the Student Association to have a column this year.This has been a match made in heaven. As one of my final acts as president, I would like to hereby declare this column the gossip column.
