{"id":12398,"date":"2019-02-01T10:12:32","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T16:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=12398"},"modified":"2019-02-07T21:20:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-08T03:20:39","slug":"sa-announces-new-open-dorm-schedule-and-dates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2019\/02\/01\/sa-announces-new-open-dorm-schedule-and-dates\/","title":{"rendered":"SA announces new open dorm schedule and dates"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>After nearly a year of collaboration between the Student Association (SA) and the student life deans, today Harding students will experience the premiere of an entirely new open- dorm structure.<\/p>\n<p>Dean of Students Zach Neal said the SA suggested they better utilize the resident halls and on-campus apartments, and after several meetings and conversations, the two decided to move open dorm from arbitrarily selected dates to the first Friday of every month with additional days added for apartment-style housing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel this gives students and residence life staff even more opportunity to experience community on campus,\u201d Neal said. Neal said they are excited to make this transition, and the new policy has received a positive response.<br \/>\nAll housing on campus will experience open dorm the first Friday of every month from 6 to 10 p.m. Apartment style housing \u2014 women\u2019s residence halls Pryor Hall, Shores Hall and Searcy Hall and men\u2019s residence hall Cone Hall \u2014 will each have an additional open dorm every month on a Friday chosen by the residence life coordinators.<\/p>\n<p>Legacy Park, Village Apartments and other on-campus apartment housing will have open dorm every Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Senior SA President Hallie Hite said she and the SA felt they could use open dorm to allow the students to interact with one another, and the new policy could possibly encourage older students to stay on campus more.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI feel that a common space is really important for Harding students partially because of our really heavy emphasis on community at Harding,\u201d Hite said. \u201cThat\u2019s who we are.
