{"id":10836,"date":"2018-04-19T15:04:31","date_gmt":"2018-04-19T21:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/?p=10836"},"modified":"2018-04-19T15:04:31","modified_gmt":"2018-04-19T21:04:31","slug":"kibo-midnight-oil-to-host-fusion-folk-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/2018\/04\/19\/kibo-midnight-oil-to-host-fusion-folk-band\/","title":{"rendered":"Kibo Midnight Oil to Host Fusion Folk Band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Collection will perform a free concert at Kibo Midnight Oil (MO) Monday, April 23 as part of their Beautiful Life tour.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to MO manager Jared Davenport, MO traditionally brings smaller artists and as a result, the turnout lacks in number. However, Davenport says The Collective\u2019s popularity among students will increase the typical attendance numbers. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The band started their tour in Asheville, North Carolina, at the beginning of April. They will end their journey May 5 in Carrboro, North Carolina, after performing 18 shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re a blast to see live,\u201d Davenport said. \u201cThey\u2019re going to be very interactive with the crowd. They\u2019ve got horns and strings and, in some of their videos, they have accordions. They all look like they\u2019re having a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although most of the members in the band play and perform with multiple instruments, Davenport said the band has a solo singer\/songwriter feel but a full band sound. The band was originally David Wimbish\u2019s solo project that grew into the full band that now consists of six members.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have great underlying spiritual message. It\u2019s not explicit, so it\u2019s very accessible to all crowds. It\u2019s not your typical worship band,\u201d Davenport said.<\/p>\n<p>The Collection comes from a Christian background and discusses themes of questioning morality and spirituality in their songs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Collection is probably one of my favorite bands because they\u2019re a band that puts a lot of effort into making everything work,\u201d senior Jackson Russell said. \u201cTheir albums have cohesive themes instead of just a bunch of songs thrown together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Collection\u2019s newest album, \u201cListen to the River,\u201d was released in March and is available on iTunes and Spotify.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re about community, vulnerability and raw music,\u201d senior Noah Sandlin said. \u201c(Lead singer) David Wimbish\u2019s voice is really raw and I think that\u2019s really what sets them apart.
