The election process began with a Q&amp;A from presidential candidates, and will\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conclude Wednesday, April 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senior Hallie Hite, co-director of this year\u2019s freshman Impact and member of the SA\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">White County Relations Committee, believes that her past work with the SA and university administration will translate well into a presidential role. Hite said she hopes to be an example to students in the same way as past SA presidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10685  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-1024x663.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-1024x663.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-768x497.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-1170x757.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie-585x378.jpg 585w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/Hallie.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI love the enthusiasm that the SA committee has about the student body,\u201d Hite said. \u201cI\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">want to be that way too, making Harding a great experience for everyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Hite is running on the platform of \u201cForward,\u201d which she said she hopes to use to continue this year\u2019s SA theme, \u201cConnect.&#8221; Hite said that if elected, she hopes to further connect the student body by updating existing common spaces or by refurbishing spaces such as the Lee building to create more engaging places for students to interact. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hite also said she wishes to brainstorm with Residence Life staff to improve dorm culture, using partnering the SA with smaller clubs on campus, and hosting more town halls to ensure that the administration is accessible to students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe big thing for us is making people feel like they belong at Harding,\u201d Hite said. \u201cWe believe that these goals will help us to achieve that principle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hite is running against junior Timothy Strasser, a member of the SA chapel committee, and member of the organizing team for this year\u2019s Day in the Word event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strasser said he is running on a platform of \u201cInclusion,\u201d and said he hopes to partner with multicultural organizations on campus to ensure all communities feel represented. Strasser said in addition to inclusiveness, creating a safe campus where students are prepared for emergencies is incredibly important to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10682 \" src=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170-1024x656.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170-1024x656.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170-768x492.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170-585x375.jpg 585w, https:\/\/thelink.harding.edu\/the-bison\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/IMG_2170.jpg 1027w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cWe want to utilize short videos in chapel and in-class presentations to equip students with an emergency plan and basic first aid skills in the case of an active shooter on campus,\u201d Strasser said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strasser also said continuation is also a theme central to his campaign, and said he hopes to further the work of the present SA by expanding the Gin Creek recreational area and by creating a new Harding landmark in the form of a \u201cprayer wall\u201d where members of the Harding community can publicly request prayer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAreas like this will draw us closer together and grow our spiritual awareness of one-another,\u201d Strasser said. \u00a0We want the incoming freshmen to leave their mark on Harding and to immediately help them feel ownership of this campus. This is the perfect beginning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jill Davis, assistant professor of mathematics, has been a sponsor for the SA for seven years. The sponsors are available as an asset and a resource, as well as consistent faces of continuity within the SA, according to Davis. During the election process, the sponsors allow the current executives to lead the candidates through the running procedures. Once the candidates have been elected, the sponsors meet with the new committee to present them with their new responsibilities and discuss potential visions for the upcoming year. The new committee spends time with the old committee learning about the current state of different projects and developing new ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s always exciting to see who will be in the next committee,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI anticipate new names and faces, and it makes for a better SA when there\u2019s a lot of interest.
