The Student Association (SA) will host a service spotlight on Monday March 12, 2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re calling it a service spotlight,\u201d Senior Davis Nossaman, vice president of the SA, said. \u201cIt will only last one day, during which we plan to show a video in chapel highlighting some service opportunities in town, set up in the student center and post on social media to make students aware of ways they can get involved in Searcy.\u201d<\/p>\n
This spotlight is being put on to highlight all of the service opportunities that students can get involved with in Searcy. It will take place in chapel and sign ups will be in the student center.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal of this is to increase awareness of service opportunities in Searcy,\u201d Nossaman said. \u201cMuch like the organization fair, The SA wants to help students realize the opportunities that are out there that might fit their skill sets or interests.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nossaman is responsible for overseeing 12 committees that the SA representatives run. Nossaman\u2019s own committee the White County relations aims to connect Harding and the local community, will run the event with the spiritual life committee.<\/p>\n
Junior Hallie Hite, is also taking part in the service spotlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe White County relations committee and the spiritual life committee will be involved in promoting the spotlight on campus,\u201d Hite said. \u201cAs we see it, the Christian call to service is a way to bridge our committees together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hite said they are still deciding which service opportunities the event will promote, but they will be organizations in which students feel they are having a direct impact on the community.<\/p>\n
Junior Paden Shelburne is a part of the White County Relations committee as well and is participating in the spotlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are bringing in three organizations who need and want volunteers from Harding,\u201d Shelburne said. \u201cThey need them regularly and we can have people serving in the community and start to grow long-term relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n
The three organizations that will also be included the Maple House, The Original Rock House and Life Resources International.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully our event will make clear how students can get involved \u2014 whether it be through our sign-up time in the stu(dent center) or on social media,\u201d Nossaman said.<\/p>\n
