Senior Liv Savage has been an essential and prominent player for the Harding volleyball team over her four-year career.
“It’s been long, fun and interesting,” Savage said.
Savage was scouted as a junior from her Texas high school for Harding volleyball. She said she received offers from three other schools but chose Harding after falling in love with the campus on her first visit. Head coach Meredith Fear was part of her recruitment process and has known her personally since taking over the program three years ago.
“On the court, she is a finisher,” Fear said. “She will get the game winning kills and blocks when we need them.”
Savage is a middle blocker and ranks 5th at Harding in career blocks per set with a 0.89 average. She has 532 total kills and 237 total blocks.
“It will be tough to find someone as dynamic as Liv. She doesn’t just get a kill or block, she puts a hole in the ground,” Fear said when asked what she will miss most about Savage.
Savage uses her experience and leadership to help support her fellow teammates. Senior Marindia Turner has been teammates with Savage for four years.
“Liv has helped me grow as a player because she’s never been afraid to call me out when my attitude is bad or when I’m getting down on myself,” Turner said.
Savage is close with her teammates and considers that to be one of her favorite aspects of Harding volleyball.
“I love being able to call them my best friends and people that I’ll stay connected with after I graduate instead of just being my teammates and only my teammates,” said Savage.
“She fills a “mom” type of roll and really looks out for the rest of her teammates,” Fear said.
Savage has high hopes for the rest of the season.
“We can go in and just go all out for any game that we play no matter if it’s conference or not and just be Harding volleyball and continue on to conference tournament and to regionals and hopefully nationals,” Savage said.
Off the court, Savage spends her time with friends and plays an active role in her social club, Shantih, and is a queen for Beta Omega Chi. Savage was in chorus for two and a half years and sings the national anthem at every home game.
“Liv has been a huge presence for this program on and off the court throughout her career. We will miss her, but the example she has been to younger players will help keep the Harding volleyball winning tradition alive,” Fear said.
