It’s hard to find a college student who hasn’t seen the music video for the popular, laid-back song “I’m Yours.” The song’s light-hearted lyrics won sandal-wearing songwriterJason Mrazinternational acclaim and several Grammy nominations.
The musician will bring his fedora to Harding and perform in the Benson Saturday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m.
The concert will feature songs from Mraz’s upcoming album, in addition to songs from his third and latest release, “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.“
“I am really impressed with CAB getting Jason Mraz to come to Harding,” student Janet Orgain said. “He’s such a well-known performer.”
In 2008, the album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 200. “I’m Yours,” has been certified multi-platinum in the United States, and has earned Mraz multiple platinum certifications overseas as well.
“I’m Yours“holds two significant records: the record for the longest running song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the record for topping the charts in four pop radio formats. The song earned Mraz Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Mraz won the College Music Award in 2004 and was nominated twice for the People’s Choice Award in 2010.
Moreover, in 2010, Mraz won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance with the song “Make it Mine.” The same year, he won another Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the song “Lucky“with singer Colbie Caillat.
Mraz has sold more than 3 million albums and the 33-year-old musician’s fame is steadily rising. The singer was able to come to Harding because he is doing a college tour and performing at a significantly discounted price, according to Corey McEntyre, director of Campus Life.
Mraz was picked because “he sold out ALLTEL, he has sold out a lot of huge arenas, he’s a huge artist, and this is a great price and I need to jump on it,” McEntyre said. ” I really think our students will like it.”
Christina Perri, a rising musician, will open for Mraz. Perri became an overnight sensation with her song “Jar of Hearts.”
Many students already have their tickets to see Mraz.
“I got tickets the day before they went on sale to the public because I wanted to get tickets before they sold out,” student Ryan Taylor said.
Ticket prices are based on seat location and are $18, $28 and $38. The concert will be free for students with the pass.
Tickets are available for purchase by phone at 501-279-4106 and online atwww.HardingCABtickets.comfor both Harding students and the public.
