“Harding added more Christmas lights to campus this year than ever before.”
False. Due to the economical situation, Physical Resources said they are using the same amount of lights as last year: They are just displaying them differently.
“Harding owns all, or at least most of, the liquor licenses in Searcy, making it a dry county.”
False. According to the state of Arkansas, there is no set amount as to how many liquor licenses are allotted to a county: Any business can apply for a liquor license. The state record shows that Harding does not own any liquor licenses.
“The Administration Facebook-stalks students, so be careful what you post.”
False: Half of the deans at Harding do not even have Facebook, and according to the Office of Student Life, the ones who are on Facebook do not have the time to go through Harding students’ pages to find ways to get the students in trouble. If the deans know about something on a student’s Facebook, it is because someone else has brought it to their attention.
Fact: You should still be careful what you post because future employers are now using Facebook as a screening tool.
“If you confess drug and/or alcohol use to the deans before being called in for questioning, you will not be suspended or expelled.”
Fact. The student handbook states, “Students who voluntarily come to a Student Life dean confessing an involvement with alcohol will be afforded an opportunity to submit to a range of possibilities up to but not including suspension or expulsion.” However, it continues, “Once a violation of the alcohol policy has been reported to the Office of Student Life, those involved will no longer have the opportunity for the agreement, and the violation will result in suspension.”
“The chapel cameras cannot count everyone in attendance because of blind spots, but they always count backpacks as people.”
False. The chapel checkers and Dean Collins both verified there is only one camera, and it does not take a photograph. The camera sends a live feed to the Office of Student Life. The feed is not from the rear of the auditorium, nor is it from directly overhead. The camera is capable of zooming in from the front of the Benson near the stage facing the back of the auditorium, so it is able to see faces, making it a rare occasion for backpacks to be counted as people. Harding chapel checkers in the back of the auditorium cover the blind spots.
