“If you came as someone interested in the actual Spring Sing, you could go through a lot of material looking before you found pieces of,” Bonnie Manor, History House Volunteer Coordinator and Curator, said. “And that’s what I’m doing, just digging through and finding bits and pieces and trying to display it forpeople to take a look at.”
The History House was started three years ago and is located at 205 Lott Tucker Drive. The History House will be open 1-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Normal History House hours are -4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Manor said she hopes to have special programs every fall and spring, in addition to the permanent displays. Permanent displays include photos, memorabilia and artifacts chronicling the early history of Harding, along with separate rooms for the Associated Women of Harding, social clubs and student life. Yearbooks and old issues of the Bison are also available to browse in the student life room.
“The house is a great memorial,” Manor said. “Thereare a lot of interests, a lot of history, a lot of facts and such, and based on you as an individual and what Harding meant to you, you can find something of interest here.”
The History House states on its website that its mission is “to preserve the faith, vision, passion and commitment in honor of the men and women that made sacrifices so that Harding University could become what it is today.”
