After Corey McEntyre stepped down as director of campus life at the end of last semester, Logan Light, assistant director of admissions, took on the role of director of campus life over the winter break, thereby taking up leadership of the Campus Activities Board.
Light said he looks forward to his new role and sees it as an opportunity to help inspire a stronger sense of pride in students for Harding by hosting activities that can meet a range of personalities and interests to unite the student body as well as raise awareness for the different organizations and events on campus.
“I feel like I’m coming in and standing on Corey’s shoulders, especially because everyone wants to know who we’re bringing in music-wise this fall,” Light said. “Corey has done such a great job that our management service calls us and says these people want to come to Harding.”
As the new director, he said the Office of Student Life will undergo some changes. He said he is planning to renovate the interior and make it a more open and camaraderie-based atmosphere for students to hang out in.
“The office will be served as a place that students could come to meet friends and not be a certain type of person,” Light said. “That is just the emphasis that I want to have for the students. That’s why campus activities exist.”
Since social clubs are now under the supervision of the deans rather than the director of Student Life, Light said CAB now has more time and resources to organize more entertainment not revolving around social clubs.
“I feel that those who are not involved in social clubs during the social club’s process don’t get a fair shake of activities and so much emphasis is placed on that, so I am actually focused on providing activities for those who are not involved in social clubs as well, which is important,” Light said.
Light said CAB intends to expand its board by recruiting more students to be involved with the planning process of many activities and campaigns. Light said he hopes the increase in board opportunities will help students gain valuable work experience and build up their resumés.
“I think that with all of the personalities in CAB, I think it’s a lot of fun to be here and that is something that is not going to change,” Light said. “The CAB’s hand is in more than a lot of people realize and because of that we need a lot more people to come help.”
Senior Amanda Herren, student co-director of campus life, said she looks forward to see what Light has in store for CAB and campus.
“Kelly [Gemma] and I, as the directors in CAB, are very excited to work with Logan,” Herren said. “His vision is great for this office and we are looking forward to making this new year exciting and successful.”
