Members of the Petit Jean staff and past editor-in-chiefs spent Oct. 20-23 attending the Associated Collegiate Press National College Media Convention in Washington D.C., and they returned with some serious hardware.<\/p>\n

Current editor Kaleb Turner, assistant editor Fanny Bonilla, 2014-15 editor Shelby Daniel, 2015-16 editor Maeghen Carter and adviser Katie Ramirez attended the four-day convention, hearing from keynote speakers such as\u00a0Edward Snowden, Donna Brazile and Bob Woodward. The group also attended award ceremonies for the Pacemaker award and Best of\u00a0Show. The Petit Jean was well represented.<\/p>\n

\u201cConnected,\u201d the 2014-15 book that was led by Daniel, won a Pacemaker, which ranked the book in the top one percent of yearbooks in the nation, out-placing schools like\u00a0Texas A&M University, James Madison University and Texas Tech University.<\/p>\n

\u201cMultitudes,\u201d the 2015-16 book that was led by Carter, won fifth in Best of Show, ranking among the nation\u2019s top yearbooks. \u201cMultitudes\u201d will compete\u00a0for Pacemaker status in April 2017, and the current\u00a0book will compete\u00a0in Best of Show at the 2017 conference in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n

Turner said Daniel, Carter and both of their staffs are incredibly deserving of the honors, and Harding University is blessed to have such a legacy of yearbook excellence to record the university\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo have the opportunity to be a part of the Petit Jean legacy is really such an honor,\u201d Turner said. \u201cBut to be part of writing Harding\u2019s history is even greater, and I hope we don\u2019t lose sight of our end goal: preserving the university we all love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turner and the current Petit Jean staff just completed their\u00a0first deadline, which included completion of the cover design and 54 pages, in a series of five deadlines for the 2016-17 book. The book is slated for completion, printing and distribution in April 2017.<\/p>\n
