Searcy A&P Tax series: Part 1

Searcy's Advertising and Promotion Tax has been a topic of controversy since being put in effect in July of 2009. 

After the Searcy Friends of Voters brought a petition to the City Council, the citizens of Searcy will now have an opportunity to vote on the Tax on Tuesday, April 13. 

If the vote on the A&P ordinance is passed, it will place a 1 percent tax on prepared food, and a 3 percent tax on hotel stays.

TV16 reporters Rachel Gardner and Grant Sloan conducted a three-part series on the tax that looked at the development of the tax, those opposed, and those in support of the ordinance.

I-HOP offers pancake special to help Children's Hospital

Harding Students had a chance to make a difference by eating a free meal on Tuesday.

IHop, the International House of Pancakes, sponsored a pancake special Feb. 23 to raise money for the Arkansas Children's Hospital. The restaurant offered a free stack of pancakes to every customer, but patrons could pay for the stack and all proceeds went to Children's Hospital.

TV 16 Reporter LaRell Reynolds reports on the pancake-tastic event.

Reeves announces decision to run for Searcy mayor

Harding University graduate Kyle Reeves announced Thursday that he will run for Searcy mayor this fall.

Reeves, an investigator for Greg Niblock's Law Office in Searcy, made his plans official at the White County Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday night. Reeves says his primary reason for running is to help ensure a more stable economy and infrastructure for the citizens of Searcy.

Harding students convey thoughts on relief effort in Haiti

Tents and Tarps, a Haiti relief effort originating at Harding University, has students proud to be a part of this university. Haiti has currently received 200 hundred tents in gracious response to the $30,000 raised over the past few weeks. Sky Vanderburg, the Service Director for the Student Association, and Sarah Kyle, Co-director of the event, both convey their thoughts on the relief effort.
